Why We Shouldn’t Worry About Worry

Why We Shouldn’t Worry About Worry

Let’s be honest: if worry worked, we’d all be in great shape.
But the truth is, worry has never solved a single problem.
All it does is steal your sleep, drain your energy, and rob your peace.

Worry is spiritual static—it drowns out the voice of God.
And today, He’s saying something very simple:
“Why worry?”

Let’s unpack that with a little help from Philippians and Psalm 23.

Worry Is a Thief That Pays in Nothing

In Philippians 4:6, Paul says:

“Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God.”

In Greek, the word “nothing” literally means—not even one thing.
So when we worry, we’re doing something God never asked us to carry.
You were never built to carry anxiety.

Here’s what worry really is:

  • 40% of what we worry about never happens
  • 30% is about the past (which you can’t change)
  • 12% is about what people think (which usually doesn’t matter)
  • 10% is about health, which only gets worse when we worry
  • 8% is legitimate concern

That means 92% of our worry is wasted energy.
And the rest? It’s God’s responsibility.

The Joy of the Lord Is Your Weapon Against Worry

Philippians 4:4 says:

“Rejoice in the Lord always. Again I will say, rejoice!”

Why does Paul repeat himself?
Because we forget.

Joy is not a luxury—it’s a necessity.
Psalm 85:6 says, “Will You not revive us again, that Your people may rejoice in You?”
Nehemiah said, “The joy of the Lord is your strength.”

You’re not strong when you’re right.
You’re strong when you’re joyful.

And joy is not the absence of problems—it’s the presence of perspective.
You don’t rejoice because things are good.
You rejoice because God is good.

God’s Track Record Is Proof You Don’t Need to Worry

Let’s look at a few people who worried… for nothing:

  • David worried Saul would kill him. He didn’t. (1 Samuel 27:1)
  • Elijah worried Jezebel would end his life. She didn’t. (1 Kings 19)
  • Israel panicked at the Red Sea. God split it. (Exodus 14)
  • King Darius lost sleep over Daniel in the lion’s den. Daniel slept fine. (Daniel 6)
  • The women at the tomb worried about the stone. It was already rolled away. (Mark 16)
  • Peter worried Jesus wouldn’t forgive him after his denial. He did. (John 21)

Each one of them panicked—but God came through.
And He will for you too.

Hakuna Matata Is More Biblical Than You Think

Psalm 23 is not just a funeral verse—it’s a life verse.

“The Lord is my Shepherd, I shall not want…”

Let that hit you:
You already have what you need.
Because you already have Who you need.

He leads you.
He feeds you.
He restores your soul.

And when enemies rise up? He sets a table in front of them.
You don’t need to fight them—just eat.
Let God handle your haters while you enjoy His provision.

Worry Makes You Forget Who Your Shepherd Is

When you worry, you act like an orphan.
But you’re not.

You’re a child of the Good Shepherd.
Jesus said, “I am the Good Shepherd, and I lay down My life for My sheep.”

A shepherd carries the lamb, fights the wolves, and leads the flock home.

That’s who God is to you.

So Why Worry?

If you can fix it—why worry?
If you can’t fix it—why worry?

Jesus said in Matthew 6:27:

“Which of you by worrying can add one cubit to his stature?”

Translation?
Worry changes nothing—except your peace level.

Worry is wasted worship.
It places more faith in your fear than in your Father.

So today, cast your cares.
Lay down your anxiety.
And walk in joy.

Because He’s got you.
